13th/14th Century Round Tower / 17th Century Windmill

Located on the grounds of Lumen Christi College, this monument was thought to be a 17th century windmill. Thanks to local historians and recent conservation work, it is now believed to be the remains of a 13th/14th century round tower, that was adapted for use as a windmill in the 17th century. Mortar samples taken during the conservation work have been dated to this earlier period. This is also the site of an early monastery dedicated to St. Columba.
